July 14 Meeting Minutes:
Meeting Attendees: Ken and Kathy Maher, Gary Spinazze, Ron Wencil, Bill and
Dawn Mendes, Mike and Sandy Connors, Rich Gruenberg, Judy Umbreit, Dave
and Janice Love, Rick and June DiLella, John Gilbert, Mark Eisenberg and Sal
Abramo
Guests: No guests in attendance
Opening Remarks:
- Ken Maher called the meeting to order.
- The photo shoot that was scheduled with this meeting will be rescheduled
for October
- Ken asked the membership for approval to grant Alex Nodel of Sage Auto
Studios a sponsor exemption to be a member of the club. Membership approved
Administrative Matters:
- Mike Connors asked for approval of the June meeting minutes. Dave Love
approved and John Gilbert seconded the motion for approval
- Bill Mendes stated we have 12 memberships in the club with 24 members
and 12 cars
- Alex is using a Mustang club website as a template for the design of our
website. We should be able to see a final draft in August. The site will be
open to the public, except for the membership list which will be password
protected.
Financial:
- Ken provided a list of income and expenses. After expenses, there is
$231.43 in the account. We received the credit of $200.00 from SunTrust
for meeting the deposit requirement of $1500.00
- We received the invoice for $1167.00 from Time Right for the club shirt order
- We have not received anything back from the IRS regarding the 501(c)(7)
application. We will need to continue to pay taxes until the receive
approval from the IRS.
- To keep expenses down, no spending will be done by the club until Q1
2022 so that we can grow funds
- Donations via check should be made out to the Louis and Gloria Flanzer
Trust for a donation to the South County Food Pantry. The trust will in turn
double the donation to the food pantry. We will attempt to give a donation
each month
- Cash donations can be given to Ken at the monthly meetings for donations
to the trust and the South County Food Pantry
- Person hygiene items can be given to Judy Umbreit to donate to the
Backpack Angels.
- Ken asked if there was any interest by membership in a 50/50 raffle at club
meetings. Membership felt the club is not large enough at this time to
have a good 50/50 raffle
Quartermaster:
- Ken is open to suggestions for items to purchase
- Name tag orders are currently on hold until we determine if there is
enough interest
- Bill Mendes placed the order for the club banner. It will be 3 ½ feet by 6
feet.
Social Events:
- The Maher’s hosted a 4 th of July BBQ at their home
- July 17 th lunch at Navigators
- July 27 th Braves rookie league game at Cool Today Stadium (Braves spring
training stadium). The event will be chaired by the Connors. No charge to
enter the stadium. Members will pay for their own lunch at the Tiki Bar in
the stadium
- The August event will be chaired by Rich Gruenberg and Judy Umbreit. The
event will be mini golf at Top Stroke in Fort Myers. Cost is $13.00 for senior
and veterans. There is a restaurant on site
- The September event will be chaired by Gary Spinazze
- The October event will be chaired by the DiLella’s
- Dave Love sent a list of local car shows
- Monthly club dinners will be the 3 rd Monday of the month. The first one
will be August 16 th hosted by the Love’s.
- The Maher’s will host the Christmas holiday dinner on December 7 th at
Cassariano’s in downtown Venice
Now You Know:
- Dave Love provided information on where the phrase ‘the whole nine
yards’ originated. In World War 2, ammunition for machine guns on
airplanes were belt driven. The belt was 27 feet long. If a gunner shot the
entire belt of bullets at a single target, the target received ‘the whole nine yards’
- Ken asked the members to list a car manufacturer name with each letter of
the alphabet. For example, the letter C would be associated with Chrysler. It was found that the only letter of the alphabet that does not have a car
manufacturer name is the letter X
Know a Member:
- Rick and June DiLella.
- June is from Connecticut. She worked as a special education
teacher, specializing in reading. Her and Rick have been married 42
years and have 2 children
- Rick is from Connecticut. Rick was a regional manager of operations
and a volunteer fireman. He restored a 1927 fire truck. Rick and
June came to Venice in June of 2020
Sal and Mark will be the members for know a member in August
